It is also important to remember deer love new growth plants which are rich in protein.  Making your tinder new growth no matter what the plant a prime target.

Here is a list of a few plants deer love, you can plant them in your garden but know they are a prefered food source

What do deer dis like?

  • Not surpisingly, deer stay away from poisonous plants! Daffodils , foxgloves, and Lantana are common flowers that have a toxicity that deer avoid.

  • Deer also turn their noses up at fragrant plants with strong scents. Herbs such as sages, ornamental salvias, lavenders, mint, society garlic, and iris' are just “stinky” to deer.

  • Would you want to eat something prickly? Neither do deer (unless they’re desperate). Plants such as barberry are not on their preferred menu.

  • Keeping in mind that the first rule in deer proofing is that there really are no deer-proof plants, just plants that deer dont prefer, but when starving they will eat.
